Ocean Decade

The United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030), otherwise known as the “Ocean Decade,” provides an opportunity and common framework for the global community to work together to transform ocean-climate knowledge into action. Across the ocean community, in its broadest and most inclusive form, there exists a collective responsibility that must extend beyond ‘sustainable ocean management’ to managing our behaviours in ways that ensure a healthy ocean for current and future generations.

Vision 2030 and the Challenge 10 White Paper

There are 10 Challenges at the heart of the UN Ocean Decade. The Vision 2030 initiative was a collaborative, ambition-setting process to define success for the 10 challenges by 2030.  Coordinated by UNESCO, this process was led by 10 expert Working Groups (one per Challenge) composed of diverse experts across geographies, generations, and gender.  COLC’s Executive Director, Diz Glithero, co-chaired the Challenge 10 Working Group and co-authored the White Paper.
